What makes a beach spectacular? What calls to you each spring, beckons to you, begs for your toes to dig down into the coolness, waves kissing your ankles as you search for sand dollars and coquinas? What is it that is beckoning you? The laughter of the gulls or the breeze at your back?
Follow the southern coastline of the eastern seaboard of our country, and you can find these scenes almost anywhere. North Carolina is the beginning of the temperate climates that people from all over the country flock to each spring and summer. We have an amazing coastline, each beach-town offering its own twist on summer vacations. I do often wonder what it is that makes the southernmost county in North Carolina so appealing.
My take is a little different. I have vacationed at almost every beach on the coast. Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Portsmouth,Ocracoke, Hatteras, Topsail Island, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Bald Head Island, Oak Island, Holden Beach, Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle. All have their niches. Everyone. I am an avid fisherman, beach comber, surfer, kayaker and sunbather. I take my daughter to the beach at least two or three times a week in the summer and a couple of times a month in the winter, as the mild days still allow for wading and catching sand fiddlers in the surf.
I chose to live here, in Brunswick County, because of the rest of what I love. I think that it’s the same for most of the people that have chosen to relocate to this area. The beaches are perfect and the coastal life is exactly what you’d want it to be. The quality of living here is the key.
Buying your North Carolina home is the first step. Deciding where may take a little more looking! North Carolina’s Outer Banks may offer you just what you want if you are looking for something off the beaten path, a little more isolated and a little more travel. Southeastern North Carolina may be the better choice if you are limited on time, need access to two international airports, theatre, dining, excellent golf courses, the best in marina access to the ICW. We are close to Myrtle Beach - golf capital of the world, and now becoming the shopping mecca of the east coast. Wilmington, with its up and coming film industry, amazing waterfront, fabulous dining and world class theatre is just up the road as well.
All of this, and still, you can buy your beach home, stick your toes in the sand, and walk with your dog all morning, with your cup of coffee and the waves kissing your ankles. It’s all in a day here, so begin your North Carolina Beach home searching here, in southeastern North Carolina.
